Best business bank account for an ecommerce store

April 21, 2026 ·

Ecommerce has a few banking quirks a service business doesn’t. Marketplace payouts, overseas suppliers, and sometimes irregular cash flow all shape what “best” actually means here.

Multi-currency is usually the deciding factor

If you’re buying stock from overseas suppliers, or selling into markets that pay you in other currencies, Wise or Revolut’s currency handling will often save more than any other single account feature. A few percent off every conversion adds up fast at real volume.

If you’re mostly selling UK to UK customers

A straightforward free account, Starling or Mettle, is genuinely enough. There’s no need to pay for currency features you won’t use, and both integrate cleanly with popular ecommerce accounting setups.

Watch how payouts actually land

Marketplace payouts (from platforms like Amazon or Etsy) can arrive in batches on their own schedule, sometimes in a foreign currency before conversion. Check how your chosen account handles incoming payouts and whether there’s a clean way to reconcile them against orders, this is where good bookkeeping habits pay off.

The honest recommendation

Selling internationally or buying overseas stock: lead with Wise or Revolut for the currency saving. Purely domestic: a free account does the job, don’t overcomplicate it. Either way, keep business money strictly separate from personal from day one, ecommerce cash flow gets confusing fast otherwise.
